Boonville Activities Director Chris Shikles to Retire After 27 Years in Education
The Boonville R-I School District proudly announces that Boonville High School Activities Director Chris Shikles will retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year. After years of dedicated service, Mr. Shikles is looking forward to this next chapter while also assisting in the hiring process and supporting a smooth transition for the next Activities Director. The district is grateful for his leadership and excited to work together to ensure Pirate Athletics remains strong well into the future.
Mr. Shikles has served in education for 27 years, with 21 of those years at Boonville High School and 16 as Activities Director.
Reflecting on his career, Shikles shared: "To have the opportunity to be a part of the school district that my wife and I grew up in and to see our kids and now our grandkids grow up as Pirates has been an absolute blessing. I have always viewed my role as a servant leader to our student-athletes and our coaches to help them grow and have the best life experience possible as a Boonville Pirate. This has been a special place in my heart for many years, and it will continue to be that as a Pirate fan for life.”
Looking ahead, he added, “The future of Boonville Athletics is looking as strong as it has ever been. With a solid Pirate Tradition in place, I look forward to what all of our student-athletes will accomplish, in the arena and outside the arena.”
BHS Principal Dr. Brent Hodge expressed gratitude for Shikles’ service: “Thank you to Athletic Director Chris Shikles for his years of leadership and dedicated service to our athletic programs, Boonville High School, the Boonville R-I District, and the community. His commitment to excellence and support of students, staff, and families will leave a lasting legacy, and we wish him the very best in retirement.”
The district looks forward to celebrating Mr. Shikles’ many contributions throughout the remainder of the school year.
